Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before booking.
Answers to what clients typically ask before getting in touch.
- How do I know if I actually need a new system, or if a repair will hold for a few more years?
- That answer depends on the age of the equipment, the nature of the failure, and what a repair would cost relative to the system's remaining value. A technician will walk you through that calculation honestly after diagnosing the problem. If a repair makes financial sense, that is the recommendation. If the system is approaching the end of its useful life or a key component like a heat exchanger has failed, you will hear that clearly, with the reasoning explained.
- What actually happens if my furnace dies in the middle of the night or on a weekend?
- Emergency service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. When you call, a technician is dispatched to your home — not a call center, not a scheduling queue for the next business day. Pittsburgh winters leave little room for delay, and a furnace failure in a home with elderly family members or young children is treated accordingly.
- Will I know what this is going to cost before any work starts?
- Yes. After the technician diagnoses the issue, you receive a clear price for the repair before anything is touched. There are no surprise charges added after the fact. If the scope of the problem changes once the system is opened up, that is communicated to you immediately, and you decide how to proceed.
- Are you licensed and insured, and can you pull permits for work in Pittsburgh?
- All technicians are licensed and insured, and permits are pulled through the City of Pittsburgh Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections when required. ACCA Manual J load calculations are completed on all new and replacement installations to meet Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code requirements. The permit and inspection process is coordinated as part of the job.
- Do you work on commercial buildings, or is this just for homeowners?
- Both residential and commercial properties are served. Commercial work includes light commercial systems, multi-zone setups, ductwork design, and service for office buildings, retail spaces, and mixed-use properties. Facilities managers who need reliable maintenance scheduling and fast turnaround on repairs are welcome to call and discuss their specific setup.
- I have an older system from a brand you might not carry. Can you still work on it?
- All major HVAC brands are serviced, including older equipment. There is no requirement to switch to a particular brand or product line. If a replacement is genuinely the better path, the recommendation will explain why and include options across multiple manufacturers so you can choose what fits your home and your budget.
- How do I prevent another unexpected breakdown — is there a maintenance plan?
- Seasonal tune-ups are available and strongly recommended given Pittsburgh's rapid swings between heating and cooling seasons. A pre-season check on your furnace in early fall, and on your AC in late spring, catches small problems before they turn into emergency repairs. Ask about scheduling recurring maintenance when you book your first appointment.
- Can you install a smart thermostat and make sure it is wired correctly for my system?
- Yes. Smart thermostat installation, including Nest and similar devices, is handled as part of a service call or installation. Older Pittsburgh homes sometimes have wiring configurations that require an adapter or a specific setup, and getting that wrong can damage the equipment. A technician handles the install and walks you through the programming before leaving.
- Do you handle indoor air quality, like humidifiers or air filtration, or just heating and cooling?
- Air quality services are available alongside heating and cooling work. Whole-home humidifiers, air filtration systems, and UV air treatment can all be added to an existing system. If your home feels dry in winter or you are dealing with dust and allergens in rooms with limited airflow, that is worth discussing when you schedule a service visit.
- How long will an installation take, and will I be without heat or AC the whole time?
- Most residential system replacements are completed in a single day. The crew arrives with the equipment ready and works through the full installation without unnecessary delays. In winter, the priority is restoring heat as quickly as possible, and the timeline is communicated clearly at the start of the job so you know what to expect.
